The project explores the Western world’s unarticulated relationship with the female breast, through medical and health research, literature, art, politics, history, popular culture, and through transcribed interviews with women who have undergone cosmetic or medically justified breast surgery.
Created by the undersigned in collaboration with Song Circus, composer Laura Bowler (Manchester, Professor of Composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Royal Northern College of Music), playwright and poet Lavinia Murray (award-winning BBC veteran), the artist collective Brave New World (UK), represented by the award-winning scenographer and costume designer Kate Lane and Valentina Ceschi (actor, director, performance artist, co-director of Dancing Brick, with directorial experience from venues such as La Scala and the Royal National Opera in London), Pål Asle Pettersen (interactive electronics), and researcher Birgitta Haga Gripsrud (Stavanger, postdoctoral researcher at UiS / Stavanger University Hospital, and expert on the phenomenology of the breast).
